Health Canada announces that Merck Canada Inc. is recalling 3 lots of Zerbaxa Powder For Solution (ceftolozane/tazobactam 1g/0.5g per vial) (lot number: SP1561A, SP1617A and SP1637A) from wholesalers, retailers, healthcare establishments and healthcare practitioners because product sterility may be compromised in the affected lots.

In Hong Kong, Zerbaxa Powder For Concentrate For Solution For Infusion 1g/0.5g (HK-65156) is a pharmaceutical product registered by Merck Sharp & Dohme (Asia) Ltd (MSD), and is a prescription-only medicine. As confirmed with MSD, the affected lots in Canada have not been imported into Hong Kong.
On 17 Dec 2020, the Department of Health (DH) endorsed MSD to recall all batches of Zerbaxa Powder For Concentrate For Solution For Infusion 1g/0.5g (HK-65156) from the market due to a potential quality issue. A press statement was issued on the same day. The DH will continue to monitor the recall.
