| The United Kingdom: Company-led recall: Bactroban 2% nasal ointment 3g/ Bactroban 2% cream 15g - Beecham Group plc trading as GlaxoSmithKline UK |

Beecham Group plc trading as GlaxoSmithKline UK is recalling Bactroban 2% Nasal Ointment 3g (batch no.: C683302, C694256, C699242, C700830 and C722794) and Bactroban 2% Cream 15g (batch no.: C680732, C703976, C704955 and C725156) to the wholesaler level due to potential risk of physical contamination with foreign materials associated with the manufacturing of the active substance, mupirocin calcium.
This recall is to wholesalers only to prevent further distribution of the affected batches. No complaints or adverse reactions relating to this issue have been received by the company to date. The MHRA advises that due to the very low level of risk, pharmacies may continue to dispense any stock and patients should continue using the products.

In Hong Kong, Bactroban Nasal Oint 2% (HK-33588) is a pharmaceutical product registered by GlaxoSmithKline Limited (GSK), and is a prescription-only medicine . Bactroban Cream 2% is not a registered pharmaceutical product. On 24 August 2015, GSK notified the Department of Health (DH) that the company will recall two affected batches of Bactroban Nasal Oint (batch no.: C686773 and C704712) from the market as the product's manufacturer in the UK was recalling certain batches due to a quality issue. A press statement was made on the same day, and the information was posted on the Drug Office website. According to GSK, 15,815 boxes of the two affected batches have been supplied to the local market, including the DH's clinics, the Hospital Authority, private hospitals, private doctors and local pharmacies. So far, DH has not received any adverse drug reaction case related to the product. DH will closely monitor the recall.
