Following a recent recall of potentially contaminated non-sterile alcohol prep pads, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reminded health care professionals about the safe use of non-sterile alcohol prep pads to clean and disinfect the surface of the skin. Health care professionals and consumers should check the label to confirm that the product is sterile, and may also want to consider washing the area with soap and water prior to using the antiseptic for skin surface preparation.
