Recall of human albumin

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

Upon notification from the Australia plasma fractionator, CSL Limited, Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) informed the Department of Health (DH) this afternoon (March 8) to recall all Albumex 5 Infusion 12.5g/250ml (HK-58570) and Albumex 20 Infusion 10g/50ml (HK-58571), from all public and private hospitals. The quantity involved are 2,422 and 11,930 boxes respectively.

According to CSL Limited, there was an equipment failure during the manufacturing of the concerned products. The BTS has informed all hospital pharmacies to quarantine the products and arranged the supply of products from other source. According to the Australian regulatory authority, the risk to patients who had received these products is extremely low. This product recall aims at ensuring zero risk to patient.

BTS has set up a hotline (2710 1222) to answer related enquiries during office hours.
