Canada: Recall of "L'il Critters Vitamin D3" and "Vitafusion Calcium Adult Gummy Vitamins" due to high levels of Vitamin D

Church & Dwight Canada Corp., in consultation with Health Canada, is voluntarily recalling all lots of "L'il Critters Vitamin D3" (NPN 80025335) after the company's testing identified levels of vitamin D that exceeds what is indicated on the product label.

The product tested contained almost four times the level of vitamin D indicated on its label, and provides more than the daily tolerable upper intake for children 8 years of age and under. Excessive intake of vitamin D for children under 8 years of age can lead to vitamin D "intoxication," which can cause headache, nausea, vomiting, constipation, lack of appetite, irritability, dehydration, fatigue and weight loss.

Church & Dwight Canada Corp. is also recalling "Vitafusion Calcium Adult Gummy Vitamins" (NPN 80029584), which the company's testing also found to contain levels of vitamin D greater than what is indicated on the product label. The amount of vitamin D is slightly more than the daily tolerable upper intake level for adults of 4,000IU. Levels of vitamin D higher than the daily tolerable upper intake level in pregnant women is not recommended.
