Australia: Medicine recall: Bayer CANESTEN clotrimazole thrush treatment 6 day cream 35g
 
The Therapeutic Goods Administration announced that Bayer is recalling five batches (batch numbers: 8B2009, 8B2010, 8B2011, 8B2020 & 8B2021) of Canesten clotrimazole thrush treatment 6 day cream 35g because the plastic applicator used in the affected batches may have a production problem resulting in rough edges due to extruding plastic at the opening or may have visible signs of black marks or spots. There have been reports of discomfort, vulvovaginal injury and/or bleeding during the use of the applicator from the 2 identified batches: 8B2010 and 8B2011. Consumers are advised to return any affected products to the Pharmacies they purchased the products for a replacement or full refund.

In Hong Kong, Canesten Cream 1% (HK-25433) containing clotrimazole is registered by Bayer Healthcare Ltd. It is a pharmacy only medicine indicated for the treatment of fungal skin infections including ringworm, athlete's foot and thrush. The registered pack sizes are 5g and 20g without any applicator. As confirmed by Bayer, the recalled product in Australia is not registered in Hong Kong.
