How to Use Nasal Drops

How to use nasal drops

1. Blow your nose gently to clear your nostrils before using the nasal drops.
2. Wash your hands with soap thoroughly.
3. Remove the cap of the bottle.
4. Sit on a chair and tilt your head backwards to rest on the back of the chair, or lie on a bed and put a pillow under your upper back to make your head tilt backwards.
5. Carefully point the bottle tip towards your nostril and instill the number of drops into your nose as directed. Do not let the tip touch the inner surface of your nose as this will contaminate the bottle.
6. Keep your head tilted backwards for about 2 minutes to allow the medicine to spread inside the nose.
7. Do not wash the tip. Place the cap back to the bottle.

Notes for use

  • If necessary, ask your family members or someone else to apply the nasal drops for you.
  • Try to avoid sneezing or blowing your nose immediately after using the nasal drops.
  • Do not use for longer than prescribed as this may cause side effects.
  • Never use discoloured, deteriorated or expired nasal drops.

Possible side effects

Shortly after using the nasal drops, you may experience mild side effects such as dryness, irritation or burning sensation of the nose. Some nasal drops may leave an unpleasant taste in your mouth. Rinsing your mouth with water will help.
Consult your doctor immediately if you experience any allergic reactions such as skin rash, swelling of the face or hands and breathing difficulty.
