Singapore: HSA Alert: Kopi Jantan Ali Macca, Kopi Panggung AL-Ambiak Natural Herbs Coffee and Berry Jaga Chewable Candy found to contain potent erectile dysfunction medicines (English only)

The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) is alerting members of the public not to purchase or consume the three products below. These products pose serious health risks as they were tested to contain high levels of potent medicinal ingredients used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The three products are:
- Kopi Jantan Ali Macca: contains sildenafil
- Kopi Panggung AL-Ambiak Natural Herbs Coffee: contains desmethyl carbodenafil
- Berry Jaga Chewable Candy: contains tadalafil

Acting on feedback from a member of the public, HSA found that Kopi Jantan Ali Macca and Kopi Panggung AL-Ambiak Natural Herbs Coffee were being sold at Shaik Abdul Kader Al-Jailani Makan Place Pte Ltd, a coffee shop located at Bedok North Street 3. HSA’s tests found that Kopi Jantan Ali Macca contained sildenafil, while Kopi Panggung AL-Ambiak Cafe Natural Herbs Coffee contained desmethyl carbodenafil. Kopi Panggung AL-Ambiak Natural Herbs Coffee was also sold on local e-commerce platforms, where it was marketed as a “performance enhancing coffee” and claimed to “improve sexual ability”.

Berry Jaga Chewable Candy was marketed for sexual enhancement on Berry Jaga Marketing’s website and other sellers on local e-commerce platforms. HSA tested the product and found that it contained up to 10 times the usual daily dose of tadalafil prescribed for erectile dysfunction. Although the product was labelled to contain fruit juice powders, the websites marketing it included cautionary advice that consumers with certain medical conditions such as low blood pressure, heart issues or taking medications such as nitrates are not recommended to take the product. This is usually a tell-tale sign that the product may contain potent medicinal ingredients.

Sildenafil and tadalafil are prescription medicines used to treat male erectile dysfunction and they should only be used under medical supervision. Inappropriate use of these medicines would put consumers at increased risk of serious adverse effects that include stroke, heart attack, low blood pressure and priapism (painful and exceedingly long erections). These medicines should also not be used by patients who are taking heart medications, especially nitrates, as it can cause potentially life-threatening low blood pressure, which may lead to death. Desmethyl carbodenafil is chemically-related to sildenafil and may cause similar adverse effects or even more toxic ones.
