Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announces that Aspen Pharma Trading Limited is recalling a specific batch of Mercaptopurine 50mg tablets (batch number: P0010384) as a precautionary measure due to microbial contamination following a small number of complaints of discoloured tablets within the packs, identified when the packs have been opened by healthcare professionals. The contamination has been identified as Penicillium Kongii.
The product is indicated for the treatment of acute leukaemia.

In Hong Kong, Puri-Nethol Tab (HK-03770) is a pharmaceutical product containing mercaptopurine registered by Aspen Pharmacare Asia Limited O/B Aspen Pharmacare Asia Limited (Aspen). The product is a prescription-only medicine. As confirmed by Aspen, the manufacturer of the product recalled in the United Kingdom is different from the Hong Kong registered product and the affected batch has not been imported into Hong Kong.
