| The United States: Esbelta Intense Loss may be harmful due to hidden ingredients |
| |
The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising consumers not to purchase or use Esbelta Intense Loss, a product promoted and sold for weight loss on various websites, including www.elegantfigure.com, and possibly in some retail stores.
FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that Esbelta Intense Loss contains sibutramine, desmethyl sibutramine, benzyl sibutramine and sildenafil not listed on the product label.
Sibutramine is a controlled substance that was removed from the market due to safety concerns. Desmethyl sibutramine and benzyl sibutramine are structurally similar substances to sibutramine, which is known to significantly raise blood pressure and/or heart rate in some people, posing serious risks for those with a history of heart disease, heart failure, irregular heartbeat or stroke. This product also may interact potentially in life-threatening ways with other medications.
Sildenafil is the active ingredient in the FDA-approved prescription drug Viagra, used to treat erectile dysfunction. It may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. This is especially concerning for people with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease, who commonly take nitrate-containing medications.
