The United States: Tepee Herbal Tea contains hidden drug ingredient piroxicam

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising consumers not to purchase or use Tepee Herbal Tea, a product promoted and sold for pain on various websites, and possibly in some retail stores.

FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that Tepee Herbal Tea contains piroxicam, which is not listed on the product label.

Piroxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (commonly referred to as NSAID). NSAIDs may cause increased risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attack and stroke, as well as serious gastrointestinal damage, including bleeding, ulceration, and fatal perforation of the stomach and intestines. This hidden drug ingredient may also interact with other medications and significantly increase the risk of adverse events, particularly when consumers use multiple NSAID-containing products.

Please refer to the following website in FDA for details: http://www.fda.gov/drugs/medication-health-fraud/tepee-herbal-tea-contains-hidden-drug-ingredient

In Hong Kong, the above product is not a registered pharmaceutical product.
