| The United States: Public Notification: Erectus Plus may be harmful due to hidden drug ingredients |
| |
The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising consumers not to purchase or use Erectus Plus, a product promoted and sold for male sexual enhancement on various websites and possibly in some retail stores.
FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that Erectus Plus contains sildenafil, tadalafil and testosterone propionate not listed on the product label.
Sildenafil and tadalafil are the active ingredients in the FDA-approved prescription drugs Viagra and Cialis, respectively, used to treat erectile dysfunction. FDA approval of Viagra and Cialis is restricted to use under the supervision of a licensed health care professional. These undeclared ingredients may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, such as nitroglycerin, and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease often take nitrates.
Testosterone propionate is a controlled substance that was an active ingredient in certain FDA-approved testosterone replacement therapy products. These testosterone replacement therapy products are no longer marketed in the U.S. following voluntary withdrawal by manufacturers. Using testosterone products may cause serious side effects, including blood clots in the legs or lungs, serious liver problems and enlarged prostate or prostate cancer.
