The United Kingdom: Class 2 medicines recall (action within 48 hours): Zovirax Eye Ointment manufactured by The Welcome Foundation Limited trading as GlaxoSmithKline UK

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced that GlaxoSmithKline UK is recalling two batches of Zovirax Eye Ointment (batch numbers: 3L942 and 3M941) as a precaution because the batches of pharmaceutical ingredient used in their manufacture were found to contain metal particles which were outside the upper specification limit for particle size. No complaints or adverse reaction reports relating to this issue have been received by the company to date. Remaining stocks of the above batches should be quarantined and returned to the original supplier for credit.

Please refer to the following website in MHRA for details: http://www.mhra.gov.uk/Publications/Safetywarnings/../CON471149

In Hong Kong, Zovirax Ophthalmic Ointment (HK-17375) is registered by GlaxoSmithKline Ltd (GSK) and is a prescription-only medicine. Related news has been released by the Therapeutic Goods Administration and was posted on the Drug Office website on 25 October 2014.
