| Australia: Recall: Deep Heat Extra Strength 100g Cream (English only) |

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) announces that Mentholatum Australasia Pty Ltd is conducting an urgent recall of two batches of Deep Heat Extra Strength 100g cream (methyl salicylate 300 mg/g, menthol 80 mg/g) (batch number: V772, V773) due to contamination.
Testing found higher than acceptable levels of bacteria in the product. The bacteria identified was Pluralibacter gergoviae. Contaminated products with Pluralibacter gergoviae can potentially result in serious infections, particularly for patients with broken skin or weakened immune systems.
The product is indicated for temporary relief from the pain of rheumatism, arthritis, fibrositis, lumbago, muscular aches and strains.

In Hong Kong, Mentholatum Deep Heating Rub Extra Strength Pain Relieving Cream (China) (HK-57656) and Mentholatum Deep Heating Rub Extra Strength Pain Relieving Cream (HK-54182) are pharmaceutical products registered by Mentholatum (Asia Pacific) Limited (Mentholatum) and are over-the-counter medicines. As confirmed by Mentholatum, the manufacturer of the product recalled in Australia is different from the above Hong Kong registered products, and the affected product and batches in the above TGA announcement have not been imported into Hong Kong.
