| Canada: Baxter Corporation products recall: Blue cap breakage |

Health Canada announces that Baxter Corporation is recalling the following products from healthcare establishments because Blue Caps Enhanced Closures (blue tip protectors) may break apart in affected lots:
- 0.9% Sodium chloride injection, USP (lot number: W6A14B0, W6B04B0, W6C05B0, W6C06B0, W6C11B0, W5L16M0, W5L16M0A, W5L16M0S, W6A14A0, W6A16A0, W6A18A0, W6A28M0, W6A28M0A, W6B05M0, W6B05M0A, W6B08A0, W6B21A1)
- 0.9% Sodium chloride Irrigation, USP (lot number: W6C11T1)
- (20 mmol/L) Potassium chloride in 5% Dextrose and 0.9% Sodium chloride injection, USP (lot number: W6C05A1)
- Lactated Ringer's injection, USP (lot number: W6C05A0)
The above products are solutions as a source of water and electrolytes or for irrigation.

In Hong Kong, 0.9% Sodium chloride Irrigation, USP and (20 mmol/L) Potassium chloride in 5% Dextrose and 0.9% Sodium chloride injection, USP are not registered pharmaceutical products, while the following pharmaceutical products are registered by Baxter Healthcare Limited (Baxter) in Hong Kong and are prescription-only medicines:
- 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection (HK-58996)
- Sodium Chloride Solution For Infusion 0.9% w/v in Aviva Container (HK-62220)
- Sodium Chloride Solution For Intravenous Infusion 0.9% w/v (HK-64733)
- Lactated Ringer's Inj USP (Baxter) (HK-41322)
As confirmed by Baxter, the manufacturer of the products recalled in Canada is different from the above Hong Kong registered products, and the affected lots have not been imported into Hong Kong.
