Australia: Ying Da Wang tablets |
|
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is aware that some Australian consumers may have purchased the product Ying Da Wang tablets over the internet. The product labelling information claims it to be a 'pure natural product'.
However, analysis undertaken by the TGA Laboratories in Australia has confirmed the presence of therapeutic quantities of sildenafil in these tablets. Sildenafil is the active ingredient in the approved Pfizer Australia Pty Ltd product Viagra, which is indicated for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction.
Consumers are advised that sildenafil is a prescription-only medicine in Australia, and may be harmful if taken without the supervision of a medical professional, particularly in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease.
Ying Da Wang tablets have not been assessed by the TGA for quality, safety or efficacy as required under Australian legislation, and the place of manufacture is not approved by the TGA.
TGA is advising consumers to cease using Ying Da Wang tablets and to discard any remaining product. Consumers are also advised to consult their health care practitioners if they have concerns arising from the use of this product.
