Products found to contain undeclared medicines

Australia: Safety advisory: Ziyinzhuangyang tablets

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has tested a product labelled Ziyinzhuangyang tablets and found that the tablets contain the undeclared substance sildenafil.

Sildenafil can interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, potentially lowering blood pressure to dangerous levels. People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease are often prescribed nitrates. Sildenafil, whether taken alone or in combination with other medication, can cause serious side effects.

Consumers are reminded that sildenafil is a prescription-only medicine in Australia. The supply of Ziyinzhuangyang tablets containing undisclosed sildenafil is illegal. The TGA advises consumers to exercise extreme caution when purchasing medicines from unknown overseas websites.

Consumers are advised to stop using Ziyinzhuangyang tablets and take any remaining product to their local pharmacy for safe disposal. If they have any concerns arising from their use of this product, consult their healthcare practitioner.
