| Australia: Safety advisory: Artri Ajo King tablets |
| |
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) announces that the TGA Laboratory has tested a product labelled Artri Ajo King and found that the tablets contained undeclared medicines diclofenac and dexamethasone.
Both diclofenac and dexamethasone are prescription-only medicines in Australia and when taken either alone or in combination with other medicines, can cause serious side effects. These risks increase with prolonged or repeated use. Because these medicines are not declared on the product label, consumers may not realise they are taking prescription medicines. This increases the chance of dangerous drug interactions, contraindications and unexpected side effects.
Artri Ajo King tablets have not been assessed by the TGA for quality, safety or efficacy. Supplying products that contain undisclosed diclofenac and dexamethasone, such as Artri Ajo King tablets, is illegal under Australian therapeutic goods legislation.
Consumers are advised to stop using Artri Ajo King tablets and take any remaining product to their local pharmacy for safe disposal. If they have any concerns arising from their use of this product, consult their healthcare practitioner.
