Overseas Recall of Infanrix IPV, Infanrix IPV+Hib and Infanrix Hexa vaccines |
|
Today (8 October 2012), GlaxoSmithKline Ltd. (GSK), a licensed drug wholesaler, informed the Department of Health that they are voluntarily recalling certain batches of Infanrix IPV, Infanrix IPV+Hib and Infanrix Hexa Vaccines in various overseas countries (refer the attached list) as a precautionary measure. The recall was initiated as the Belgian manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals, found one batch of Infanrix Hexa (Batch no.: AC21B334) failed due to an excursion in environmental monitoring and this batch was never placed on the market. Since the same batch of bulk antigens have been used to produce some batches of Infanrix IPV, Infanrix IPV+Hib and Infanrix Hexa vaccines in February 2011, GSK conducted this voluntary recall of the affected batches in overseas countries where the products had been distributed.
In Hong Kong, Infanrix IPV (HK-49556), Infanrix IPV+Hib (HK-47367) and Infanrix Hexa (HK-48745) vaccines are registered pharmaceutical products. GSK confirmed that the affected batches had never been imported to Hong Kong and hence the recall in overseas countries does not affect Hong Kong.
