| Canada: Sambucol Cold & Flu Capsule was found to contain undeclared acetylsalicylic acid or other salicylates |

Associated National Brokerage Inc. (ANB) initiated recall of one lot of Sambucol Cold & Flu Capsule (lot no.: 60048811) as it is contraindicated for people allergic to acetylsalicylic acid or other salicylates not stated on product label. The product is labelled to contain Echinacea purpurea 44.5mg, Salix alba 77.4mg (15.5:1), Sambucus nigra subsp. nigra 30mg (50:1), Vitamin C 245mg and Zinc 12mg. The depth of distribution of the product is wholesalers and retailers (BC, AB, SK, MB, ON, QC, NB, NS, NF).
Health Canada classified the hazard level of the recall as Type II, i.e. a situation in which the use of, or exposure to, a product may cause temporary adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.
