Dr. Mao Slimming Capsules, Perfect Body Solutions, Burn 7, Bella Vi Insane Amp'd, Bella Vi Amp'd Up, Be Inspired, Goodliness Fat-Reducing Capsules, Jimpness Beauty Fat Loss Capsules were found to contain the following undeclared substances:
- Dr. Mao Slimming Capsules, Perfect Body Solutions and Burn 7 contain sibutramine;
- Bella Vi Insane Amp'd, Bella Vi Amp'd Up, Be Inspired, Goodliness Fat-Reducing Capsules contain sibutramine and phenolphthalein; and
- Jimpness Beauty Fat Loss Capsules contain sibutramine, sildenfail and phenolphthalein.
All the products were promoted for weight loss. Sibutramine was previously used to treat obesity but is no longer authorized for sale in Canada because of its association with an increased risk of cardiovascular side effects such as heart attack and stroke. Phenolphthalein was previously used as a laxative but is no longer authorized for sale in Canada because it may cause cancer. Sildenafil is a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction and should only be taken under the supervision of a health care professional. It is possible that they may have been brought into Canada by travellers or purchased over the Internet. Consumers are advised not to use them and consult with a healthcare professional if they have concerns about their health related to the use of the products.
