Australia: Safety alerts: Majestic slimming capsules contains undeclared prescription substance sibutramine

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has tested Majestic slimming capsules and found that it contains the undeclared prescription substance sibutramine despite the product label claim that it is made of herbal ingredients and contains no medicines. Sibutramine is a prescription-only medicine (which was the active ingredient in Reductil) and was withdrawn in October 2010 after a study showed an increased risk of major cardiac events. Majestic slimming capsules also contains the undeclared substance phenolphthalein which was previously used as an oral laxative but is no longer available in Australia due to serious safety concerns associated with its long term use. Consumers are advised to stop taking Majestic slimming capsules, discard any remaining capsules and consult health care practitioner if they have any concerns arising from their use of the product.

Please refer to the following website in TGA for details: http://www.tga.gov.au/safety/alerts-medicine-majestic-slimming-capsules-121109.htm

In Hong Kong, the above product is not a registered pharmaceutical product.
