Australia: Safety advisory: Natural Miaotiaoyishen Capsules was found to contain undeclared prescription substance sibutramine

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has tested Natural Miaotiaoyishen Capsules and found that it contains the undeclared prescription substance sibutramine despite the product label claim that it is natural and contains no medicines. Sibutramine is a prescription-only medicine (which was the active ingredient in Reductil) and was withdrawn in October 2010 after a study showed an increased risk of major cardiac events. It also contains the undeclared substance phenolphthalein which was previously used as an oral laxative, but is no longer available in Australia due to serious safety concerns associated with its long term use. Consumers are advised to stop taking Natural Miaotiaoyishen Capsules and take any remaining capsules to local pharmacy for safe disposal.

Please refer to the following website in TGA for details: http://www.tga.gov.au/safety/alerts-medicine-natural-miaotiaoyishen-130228.htm

In Hong Kong, the above product is not a registered pharmaceutical product.
