Australia: Safety advisory: Acai Berry Living-XS Diet capsules contain undeclared prescription substances sibutramine and phenolphthalein

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has tested Acai Berry Living-XS Diet capsules and found that it contains the undeclared prescription substance sibutramine, despite the product label claim that it is natural and contains no medicines. Sibutramine was withdrawn in October 2010 after a study showed an increased risk of major cardiac events. The level of sibutramine found in these capsules is well above the previously allowable prescription levels. It also contains the undeclared substance phenolphthalein which was previously used as an oral laxative, but is no longer available in Australia due to serious safety concerns associated with its long term use. Consumers are advised to stop taking Acai Berry Living-XS Diet capsules and take any remaining capsules to their local pharmacy for safe disposal, and consult their healthcare practitioner if they have any concerns arising from their use of this product.

In Hong Kong, the above product is not a registered pharmaceutical product.
