Australia: Safety advisory: Slim-Vie Slimming Capsules were found to contain undeclared sibutramine, sildenafil and phenolphthalein

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has tested a product labelled Slim-Vie Slimming Capsules and found that the capsules contain the undeclared substances sibutramine, sildenafil and phenolphthalein. Slim-Vie Slimming Capsules pose a serious risk to health and should not be taken. TGA investigations have shown that a number of people in Australia may have bought the product online.

Consumers are advised that sibutramine is a prescription-only medicine in Australia (which was the active ingredient in Reductil). It was withdrawn in October 2010 after a study showed an increased risk of major cardiac events. Sildenafil is currently a prescription-only substance in Australia. Phenolphthalein is a prescription-only substance previously marketed as an oral laxative, withdrawn from sale from many markets in the late 1990’s due to concerns over its carcinogenicity with long term use.

Consumers are advised to stop taking the product and consult their health care practitioner if they have any concerns arising from the use of the product.

Please refer to the following website in TGA for details: http://www.tga.gov.au/alert/slim-vie-slimming-capsules

In Hong Kong, the above product is not a registered pharmaceutical product.
