Australia: Maxagra capsules: Recall - products contain undeclared substances

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) further to its safety advisory given on 3 February 2016, advised consumers and health professionals that Cleanicall, in consultation with the TGA, is recalling Maxagra capsules.

Maxagra capsules were being marketed as a herbal medicine used to treat erectile dysfunction.

This recall is being taken after TGA testing found that these capsules contained the undeclared substance sildenafil and the antibiotic oxytetracycline. Both of these substances are prescription-only medicines and could pose a serious safety risk if taken.

Consumers are advised that if they have any Maxagra capsules, do not take them. They contain ingredients that could pose a serious risk to your health.

Please refer to the following website in TGA for details: http://www.tga.gov.au/alert/maxagra-capsules

In Hong Kong, the above product is not a registered pharmaceutical product. Related news was previously issued by TGA, and was posted on the Drug Office website on 3 February 2016.
